This Weekend at the California Mid-State Fair

The fair is officially coming to an end and because they like to go out in style, they have an exciting weekend planned.  The highly anticipated Country  Rodeo Finals take place on Saturday and then fair goers will be sitting on the edge of their seats during the Monster Truck Show on Sunday!  From past experience, I can safely say that these are two great events!

What's happening this weekend at the 2013 California Mid State Fair?

FREE Shows  (free with paid admission to the Mid State Fair)

• Fort Frontier Stage: Uncle Kracker at 6:30pm and 8:30pm on Saturday and Manuel Enrique on Sunday at 6:30pm and 8:30pm.
• Mission Square: El Desanyuno on Saturday at 6:30 and 8:30pm and Route 66 on Sunday at 6:30 and 8:30pm.
• Paso Pete’s Ponderosa Stage: "Steer Roping" at 6pm on Saturday

Friday, July 26 - Today at the California Mid-State Fair

I am hereby proclaim to be a huge Huey Lewis fan. As a child, my Aunt Susan and I used to bee-bop around her bedroom while dancing to the likes of Prince, Huey Lewis and Duran Duran.  Those were some of my best childhood memories. This morning, I awoke to discover that Huey Lewis is celebrating a milestone tonight: it's the 30th anniversary of his "Sports" album which was my all-time favorite record as a youngster. 30 years? I guess the cat is out of the bag and I can no longer sway people to believe that I am only 29 years old!  Tonight's concert theme is "an evening of wine and music" and the Chumash Grandstand Area is the place to be!    

The opening band for Huey Lewis is ZZAH. ZZAH’s music mirrors their sense of joy and effervescence – the meaning of the word ZZAH.  This is a band whose greatest joy is turning people on to their band of contemporary jazz: melodic West Coast sensibilities with an East Coast approach to soloing. Be sure to grab your Wranglers for the Country  Rodeo Finals on Saturday and then get ready for the live action during the Monster Truck Show on Sunday!  Sounds like a party to me!

Thursday, July 25 - Today at the California Mid-State Fair

I have a big announcement but you are hereby sworn to secrecy. Tonight's  Chumash Grandstand Arena performance is FREE. You heard me, Brit Floyd is free and should be an amazing show. Brit Floyd will be presenting P-U-L-S-E 2013, The Pink Floyd Ultimate Light & Sound Experience, a stunning new three hour show featuring note-for-note performances of five full album sides, including 'Wish You Were Here', 'Animals', 'The Wall', 'The Division Bell', and, in celebration of the 40th anniversary, Pink Floyd's classic defining album, 'The Dark Side of The Moon'.

On the free stage tonight is Berlin with Terri  Nunn at 6:30 and 8:30pm. Terri Nunn deserves a special mention as this woman puts on a kick-bootie performance. Last year, my husband and I enjoyed her show so much that we circled back and watched the second show!

The rest of the week includes Huey Lewis & the News (Friday), the Country  Rodeo Finals (Saturday) and the Monster Truck Show (Sunday).

Wednesday, July 24 - Today at the California Mid-State Fair

This morning, I am overcome by a very serious condition called, "concert high" and there are two bands to blame.  The Band Perry and Rascal Flatts put on an ah-ma-zing show last night!  Truly spectacular and made even better by perfect Paso Robles weather! Tonight is another highly anticipated evening as Van Halen will be taking over the Chumash Grandstand Arena and rocking the house Van Halen-style!  

There are still some great shows left including Brit Floyd (Thursday) and Huey Lewis & the News (Friday).  The final round-up includes the Country  Rodeo Finals and the Monster Truck Show.

Tuesday, July 23 - Today at the California Mid-State Fair

Last night, John Mayer rocked the California Mid-State Fair much to the delight of droves of swooning women in the Chumash Grandstand Arena.  How do I know?  I was one of them!  What an amazing show and a talented artist. T'was another fun night in Paso Robles! 

What's happening today at the 2013 California Mid State Fair?  Well, I am glad that you asked because I have the answers for you!  Tonight, the Chumash Grandstand Arena welcomes Rascall Flats and The Band Perry which is the highest selling show for this year's fair.  Do you want the good news?  There are still tickets left!  I hope to see you there!     

If you can't make tonight's show, stay tuned because there is still a lot more to come! This week, the fair welcomes Van Halen (Wednesday), Brit Floyd (Thursday) and Huey Lewis & the News (Friday).  The final round-up includes the Country Rodeo Finals and the Monster Truck Show.

Monday, July 22 - Today at the California Mid-State Fair

The 2013 California Mid State Fair is in full swing and I am just a tad bit excited about tonight's show.  I'll admit it: I may have a little crush on John Mayer.  There, I said it.  My husband, being the wonderful guy that he is, bought tickets to tonight's show so you will find me somewhere in the crowd belting out, "Your Body is a Wonderland" in my best singing voice. 

The Chumash Grandstand Arena has been on fire over the past five nights with the likes of Tim McGraw, Trace Adkins, Adam Lambert, Sail Rock 2013 and Matchbox Twenty and Goo Goo Dolls. My friend, Brittany App of App’s Photography kindly sent me photos from last night's show and I must admit that I am jeleous of her job.  Out of the kindness of my heart (and because it's John Mayer), I offered up my expert camera carrying skills for tonight's concert although she hasn't taken me up on my offer.  Yet.  

Be sure to get out to the fair this week as there is still so much more to come! Rascal Flatts with the Band Perry (Tuesday), Van Halen (Wednesday), Brit Floyd (Thursday) and Huey Lewis & the News (Friday).  The final round-up includes the Country Rodeo Finals and the Monster Truck Show.

Sunday, July 21 - Today at the California Mid-State Fair

The 2013 California Mid State Fair, whose theme this year is “Start Spreading the News” officially kicked off on Wednesday with Tim McGraw breaking in the Chumash Grandstand Arena.  Last night, the crowd grooved to Sail Rock 2013 (see photos), a compilation show featuring five fantastic artists singing their biggest hits.

What’s Happening Tonight in the Chumash Grandstand Arena?
At 7:30pm, Matchbox Twenty and the Goo Goo Dolls promise to deliver a show that Paso Robles won't soon forget! This one is another not-to-be-missed concert as I've personally seen both bands and they put on a fantastic show! 

More about Matchbox Twenty:  They have sold over 30 million records worldwide, and earned countless accolades, including five GRAMMY® nominations, four American Music Award nods, and the 2004 People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Musical Group.” Furthermore, Rob Thomas has proven one of the most highly decorated artists of recent years, receiving three GRAMMY® Awards, 11 BMI Awards, the first ever Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award, and two Billboard “Songwriter of the Year” honors for both his chart-topping solo work as well as collaborations with such legends as Santana, Mick Jagger, and Willie Nelson. What’s Happening Tonight in the Chumash Grandstand Arena?

At 7:30pm, Adam Lambert kicks off the festivities with his American Idol cohort Allison Iraheta opening the show.  Head on out to the fairgrounds and enjoy a warm summer night and some great music!

More about Adam: In 2009, Lambert was the runner-up on the 8th season of “American Idol”. His first album For Your Entertainment sold nearly two million copies worldwide and 4.2 million singles worldwide. Last year, he released Trespassing and the album debuted at the #1 position on the Top of the US Billboard Album chart. Thursday, July 18 - Today at the California Mid-State Fair

The 2013 California Mid State Fair, whose theme this year is “Start Spreading the News” officially kicked off yesterday with Tim McGraw breaking in the Chumash Grandstand Arena.  Never one to disappoint, I heard from my friend, Brittany App of App’s Photography that Tim McGraw rocked the house in a way that only Tim McGraw can!  For a second year in a row, we will be posting Brittany’s photos throughout the fair so be sure to check back daily for the schedule of events and the amazing talent of App’s Photography.

Sabrina Dunn Crowned Miss CMSF 2013!

On Tuesday evening, Sabrina Dunn was crowned queen, as the winner of the Miss California Mid-State Fair Pageant on the Frontier Stage at the Paso Robles Event Center.  Michelle Tarango was named princess as first runner and Elida Moore was selected as second runner up.  Dunn was also named Miss Congeniality.  This annual pageant kicked off the 2013 California Mid-State Fair.

Sabrina Dunn is 18 years old and a graduate of Templeton High School. Her hobbies include baking, horseback riding, hiking, running, crafting, welding and woodworking.  She also loves to read and listen to music.  Clubs that she is involved in are Puma Aquatics, Templeton High School Swim Team and FFA. Her achievements include Top Scholar Award (4 years), FFA Rising Star, Equine Science Sectional Proficiency Winner, Wood/Metal Project Auctions, Most Spirited Senior, Coach’s Award and Most Dedicated Award.  Sabrina’s platform title is “Project Surf Camp, Shredding the Mystery”.  She will have an informational booth to raise awareness on this charitable organization.

What’s Happening Tonight in the Chumash Grandstand Arena?

I’m thrilled that you asked!   Tonight, the country theme will continue when Trace Atkins and Brantley Gilbert  show Paso Robles a good time beginning at 7:30pm. 

About the Chumash Grandstand Arena: The California Mid-State Fair’s Chumash Grandstand Arena has over 14,600 seats which is a large venue by most county or state fair standards. And with this many seats, it is a natural draw for past performers and big-name talents like the Black Eyed Peas, Aerosmith and Carrie Underwood to entertain fans in Paso Robles.

The California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles starts TODAY!

The 2013 California Mid State Fair, whose theme this year is “Start Spreading the News” kicks off today in Paso Robles and I am so excited about this year’s line-up of fun, concerts and funnel cake!

The Main Grandstand - Chumash Grandstand Arena:

This year, the main grandstand plays host to Tim McGraw with Kip Moore, who kicks off opening night (tonight!) followed by Trace Atkins with Brantley Gilbert, Adam Lambert, Sail Rock, Matchbox Twenty with Goo Goo Dolls, John Mayer, Rascal Flatts with The Band Perry, Van Halen, Brit Floyd, Huey Lewis & The News, Country Rodeo Finals and Monster Trucks.

The California Mid-State Fair’s Chumash Grandstand Arena has over 14,600 seats which is a large venue by most county or state fair standards. And with this many seats, it is a natural draw for past performers and big-name talents like the Black Eyed Peas, Aerosmith and Carrie Underwood to entertain fans in Paso Robles.

I spoke to Tom Keffury of the California Mid-State Fair who said this, “The Chumash Arena is what really sets the California Mid-State Fair apart from the typical county fair. The California Mid-State Fair has the usual corn dog stands, carnival, pig races and unique vendors that sell anything from shoe polish to sunglasses, but in addition to all that, the California Mid-State Fair has an incredible venue for outdoor concerts, unlike any other county Fair.” As someone who has been personally attending the Mid State Fair for over 25 years, I couldn't agree more.

The FREE Stages - Fort Frontier Stage and Mission Square:

Year after year, I am thoroughly impressed with the line-up on the free stages. This year fair-goers can look forward to names such as Keb' Mo', Sister Hazel, Berlin, Uncle Kracker, Rewined, Matt Nathanson, Jeremy Camp and Manuel Enrique. Did I mention that these are all FREE?

Paso Pete's Ponderosa Stage:

This is the place to be!  It's here that you will find the Farmer's Favorite Cobbler contest, Morning DJ Drive competition, Cupcake Challenge, Salsa competitions, fashion shows and steer roping!  Sounds like a good time to me!
